I am honored to write to you as the newly elected president of VOSH-Illinois. Over the past five years, it has been a privilege to work alongside so many of you and witness your incredible dedication to bringing vision care to those who need it most.
I want to express my deepest gratitude to Dr. Andrew Kohn for his exceptional leadership over the past eight years. His hard work and commitment have built a thriving chapter. I am honored to have been entrusted by my fellow board members, and I am committed to continuing the ongoing legacy of service of VOSH-Illinois.
I look forward to collaborating with all of you in this role, and welcome any thoughts or ideas in shaping what’s next for VOSH-Illinois. Thank you for all you do to make this mission possible.

Hello VOSHers!
I feel incredibly honored to have served as the president of VOSH-Illinois for the past 8 years.
I could not be more proud of this chapter, the volunteers who selflessly dedicate their time or the work that continues to be done on behalf of underserved communities.
In general, our members’ commitment and willingness to help others in need has always been so impressive to me. That being said, the persistence of that devotion throughout the pandemic and a variety of international crises was nothing short of inspiring.
Dr. Kelly Scherer will now be taking the reins as president of our chapter. Without a hint of exaggeration, I can honestly say that she is the perfect person for the job. Dr. Scherer is a devoted humanitarian, a phenomenal clinician and, quite simply, just a wonderful human being. As such, she embodies the qualities that makes VOSH what it is.
I have always admired the rich history of VOSH-Illinois and did my best to honor those who preceded us. At this moment, though, I am even more excited to see what is to come. I have no doubt this organization will continue to thrive under Dr. Scherer’s leadership.
